The Neurosurgeon

Duties and Responsibilities:

                         Neurosurgeons perform surgery on the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves to remove tumors, relieve chronic pain and treat wounds, vascular disorders and diseases such as Parkinson's and epilepsy. They also use surgery to relieve hydrocephalus, the abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Brain surgeons may focus on the correction of deformities and treatment of diseases of the spinal cord such as degenerative spine disorder and scoliosis. Other areas of sub-specialization include pediatric neurosurgery and radiosurgery, the targeted use of radiation to treat tumors.

Salary:  $421,032-$707,635

Education Required:

                        Before starting residency training, aspiring neurosurgeons must complete four years of undergraduate school followed by four years of medical school. Neurosurgeons then take 6-7 years of neurosurgical residency training. In the first year, commonly called Post Graduate Year One or the internship year, residents undergo training in basic clinical skills in areas such as trauma and critical care followed by 3-6 months of training in clinical neurology. Over the next six years, residents complete a total of at least 42 months training in core clinical neurosurgery.They must have a medical degree, years of residency training, state licensing, and sometimes board certification.

Demand:

                        As with many other surgical specialties, training takes many years, and the workload can be very demanding. However, neurosurgeons are in greater demand than many other specialists because of their ability to generate revenue for a hospital by performing surgery, according to a September 2010 article in “Becker’s Hospital Review.”

Reflection: I believe that Neurosurgeons are very different from other normal surgeons, but all surgeons are still very handy at their job because of what they do. I think that neurosurgeons just work on specific parts of the body but they still save lives. Being any kind of surgeon seems like a lot of responsibility, maybe even one of the dream jobs I can consider in future.

This quote by Victor Hugo, mean that even tho you tell a partial of your story, leaving out what you don’t want them to know, makes it a total lie. Telling the truth means everything is true and by leaving out something, makes it not-so true. To clear things up, just tell the whole story and you’ll be telling the truth. I you think it will make things worst, then just apologize for what you did and tell them why you did it. This might make things better, but it won’t erase the idea of what you left out. You could’ve thought of just doing what you were suppose to do in the first place. At the end, I hope that the idea of doing the right thing stays in your mind.

The Naturopathic Doctor

• Naturopathic doctors treat patients using a system of medicine that is based on the healing power of nature. They identify, diagnose, and treat patients for their conditions and illnesses. Common duties of naturopathic treatment practitioners include meeting with patients, examining patients, performing tests, following up and monitoring patients, discussing treatment options, designing treatment plans, and other duties as needed.

Salary of a Naturopathic Doctor is $135,950 yearly.

• The Education Required for a Naturopathic Doctor is to complete a 4-year, graduate-level program accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education. The first two years of a naturopathic medical degree are the same as for traditional medical students.

• Current growth and other positive trends make today a good time to become a naturopathic doctor especially since the future prognosis for job demand in this field looks equally bright.

Reflection: I believe that a Naturopathic Doctor, is only added up to the physician list. Even if I would like my future career to be dealing with Medicine, I would want to wish for something more challenging like a Surgeon. However, I do like the idea of this profession, and how it works.

Military Medical Career Pathways

-Cardiologist

~There are many Medical Careers inside Military Branches. However, the one that best interested me was the Cardiologist.

Duties/Responsibilities

• A cardiologist is a doctor with special training and skill in finding, treating and preventing diseases of the heart and blood vessels. As an Officer on the U.S. Army healthcare team, you can build a distinguished medical career while making a difference in the lives of the Soldiers and their families. Examine, diagnose, and treat or recommend courses of treatment or therapy for patients, with particular emphasis on disorders of the cardiovascular system.

The Salary of a Military Cardiologist is more than $522,000 annually.

REQUIREMENTS

ACTIVE:

• Current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
• Eligibility for board certification
• Completion of at least one year of an approved graduate medical education internship
• Completion of a training program in cardiology
• Between 21 and 42 years of age (may request a waiver, Locate A Recruiter for more information)
• Must be a U.S. citizen

RESERVE:

• In addition to the above qualifications, permanent U.S. residency is required for Reserve officers.

• The incidence rate of cardiac problems nationwide is going up by about 13 percent each year, but, while the need is increasing, the number of cardiologists is not keeping pace with demand. Each year, demand across the country increases roughly 24 percent.

Reflection: My opinion is that the percentage of Cardiologist is too low, and even more the one’s who work for the people in the Military. I can start by doing the education I need to be a Cardiologist

To associate yourself with men of good quality, means to connect with people of ‘your nature’. I certainly this is true, and I believe that by doing so, people can become more of a better person. However, I think leaving others behind, just because of the things they do from what they were taught from their childhood, is no exception of mine. I think finding these people during our pathways in life, truly means they have a purpose. If it’s not for them to teach us a lesson, it’s for us to teach them. To summarize, I believe that we shouldn’t push anyone away no matter how they are or what they do, someday we will be recognized by this.

What is Presidents Day?

                           February is an important month — not just because it includes a holoda well-known Valentine’s Day, but because even though it was the shortest month of the year, it contained two holidays for which schools were closed: Lincoln’s Birthday (February 12) and Washington’s Birthday (February 22). Their birthday’s were soon brought together to celebrate in one day, and then called the special day, Presidents Day.

History of Valentine's...

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, so he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine thought this wasn’t fair and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When people discovered what Valentine’s had been doing, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is claimed that he wrote her a letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still used today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and–most importantly–romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France. Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s.
