School Homecoming

What is School Homecoming?
  • Homecoming is a time to celebrate the school you’re attending. And, after you’ve graduated, it’s a time to go back (or “come home”) to your town and the campus, see old friends, and reminisce about your school days. Homecoming usually centers around a football game, but schools have been known to have homecoming basketball, soccer or even hockey games. It’s an annual tradition for most American high schools (and some colleges and universities, too!) There are a ton of activities that center around homecoming, and they vary from school to school. The celebrations generally start within the school on Monday and last all the way through the weekend when the alumni show up.
History of Homecoming
  • The 1911 Kansas vs. Missouri football game is one of several claimed to be the first college football homecoming game. The tradition of Homecoming has its origin in alumni football games held at colleges and universities since the 19th century.
Why Do We Celebrate Homecoming In Schools?
  • A pep rally usually occurs on the day of the big homecoming game. A dance follows the homecoming game, and a homecoming queen and sometimes king are crowned either during this time or at halftime of the game. All of these encourage students and alumni to have school spirit and pride. Also, it’s fun for the students in these Schools.
Relative Activities
  • Prom
  • Class Reunion
  • Any Special games/meetings of any Sport
Why is it called Homecoming game?
  • Homecoming is an annual tradition in the United States. People, towns, high schools, and colleges come together, usually in late September or early October, to welcome back alumni and former residents.
Homecoming Etiquette
  • High School Homecoming Etiquette is homecoming, which takes place every fall, and is a very important high school event. The tradition, now followed by most schools and states, was born. Most homecoming dances are semi-formal, although each school will specify its own dress code.
Reflection
  • I think that Homecoming and all those Special events our School does, are a very great idea. This makes us feel more comfortable with our school and with ourselves. It can also make us forget about the stress and problems for a while, but it is really worth to go and have fun, also to support our school.
